2

Aerospace & Defence

Typical Parts

Turbine blades, precision machined components, brackets, bushings, fasteners, aerofoil sections

Features Measured

GD&T (position, runout, perpendicularity), angles, hole patterns, profiles, contours — full ASME Y14.5 support

Typical Tolerances

±1–5 µm — tight tolerances, fully NABL-traceable measurement and reporting

Why Optomech

Optomech's roots are in aerospace precision — founded with ISRO-era metrology expertise. Our VMM systems deliver the CNC-programmable GD&T capability defence suppliers demand.

3

Medical Devices

Typical Parts

Cannulas, micro-components, moulded micro-plastics, implant components, needles, surgical instruments

Features Measured

Small radii, wall thickness, slot widths, angles, burrs (optical), OD/ID on micro-scale

Typical Tolerances

±1–3 µm — sub-micron repeatability achievable with VMM + telecentric optics

Why Optomech

Non-contact optical measurement eliminates part damage risk. Telecentric lenses eliminate perspective error. Critical for medical components where every micron matters.

4

Plastics & Packaging

Typical Parts

PET bottles, preforms, caps/closures, blow-moulded containers, plastic profiles

Features Measured

OD/ID, thread/finish, neck and shoulder angles, base check, label reference features, wall thickness

Typical Tolerances

±2–10 µm typical — depends on part size and system selected

Why Optomech

Fast, recipe-based measurement for high-volume bottle and preform production. Specialised inspection solutions available for dedicated glass bottle and preform inspection lines.

5

Electronics

Typical Parts

Connectors, lead frames, PCBs, micro-mechanics, stamped contacts

Features Measured

Pitch, pad alignment, coplanarity, profile, edge straightness, via dimensions

Typical Tolerances

±1–5 µm — high accuracy required for fine-pitch components

Why Optomech

VMM CNC routines handle complex board patterns efficiently. High-magnification microscopes provide the detail resolution needed for fine-pitch connector inspection.

6

Glass & Containers

Typical Parts

Glass bottles, vials, jars, ampoules

Features Measured

Finish/thread dimensions, neck angles, shoulder profile, base flatness, ovality, height

Typical Tolerances

±5–20 µm — depending on feature and system chosen

Why Optomech

7

Metals & Extrusions

Typical Parts

Aluminium profiles, extruded tubes, rods, structural sections

Features Measured

Cross-section dimensions, slot widths, wall thickness, straightness, angles, twist

Typical Tolerances

±5–50 µm — depending on profile complexity and travel required

Why Optomech

QMM long-travel variants handle extrusion cross-sections efficiently. VMM handles tight-tolerance profiles. Dedicated Al Profile Inspection solution available.

8

General Engineering

Typical Parts

Fixtures, jigs, gauges, tooling, custom machined parts

Features Measured

Edges, angles, hole patterns, distances, profile comparisons, complex contours

Typical Tolerances

Varies — ±5 µm (gauges) to ±50 µm (fixtures) depending on application

Why Optomech

From quick shop-floor silhouette checks to complex pattern measurement — Optomech covers every general engineering inspection need with one instrument family or the right specialised solution.

FAQs

Measurement Questions by Industry

Common questions engineers ask when evaluating Optomech metrology systems for their application.

For high-volume automotive turned parts, the QMM Opto Series provides seconds-level pass/fail with recipe templates and SPC/CPK exports. For complex GD&T requirements on gears or housings, the VMM (VPP CNC) is recommended. Profile projectors (PP) are ideal for fast shop-floor edge and silhouette checks.

Yes. Optomech Vision Measuring Machines (VMM/VPP CNC) support full GD&T measurement including position, runout, perpendicularity, and profile — with CNC-programmable routines, autofocus, and traceable reporting. Widely used for turbine components, precision brackets, and first-article inspection.

For medical micro-components such as cannulas, needles, and implant parts, Optomech recommends the VMM with telecentric optics for sub-micron non-contact measurement, and the Digital Video Microscope (DVM) for up to 180x high-magnification inspection of fine radii, slots, and burrs.

Optomech QMM and VMM systems measure OD/ID, thread/finish, neck angles, shoulder profile, and base dimensions on PET preforms and bottles. Specialised inspection solutions are also available for dedicated glass bottle and preform lines.

Yes. Optomech offers QMM systems with long-travel stages for cross-section measurement of aluminium extrusion profiles, including slot widths, wall thickness, angles, and straightness. A dedicated Aluminium Profile Inspection specialised solution is also available.

Tolerance capability depends on the instrument and application. QMM systems typically achieve ±2–10 µm for multi-feature inspection. VMM systems with CNC and autofocus achieve sub-micron to low-micron repeatability. All systems are calibrated to NABL-traceable standards.

Yes. The QMM Opto Series and VMM systems export data as PDF reports, CSV files, and SPC/CPK summaries compatible with standard quality management platforms.

Optomech metrology systems serve automotive & EV, aerospace & defence, medical devices, plastics & packaging, electronics, glass & containers, metals & extrusions, and general engineering. Systems are deployed in 12+ countries.
