Product Context

What Is Fill Level Inspection?

Fill level inspection — also called liquid fill height vision or underfill/overfill bottle inspection — verifies that every container leaves the filler with the correct volume of product visible as a fill line.

On high-speed liquid packaging lines in India, underfilled bottles create compliance and customer-trust risk, while overfilled bottles waste product and can cause sealing or shipping issues. Manual sampling cannot catch every short fill at production speed.

Optomech is a packaging vision OEM known for BIS, CIS, LIS, ISIVS, FOSIS, CANIS, and PBIS. Fill-level inspection is an adjacent capability — engineered for your bottle, liquid opacity, and line layout — and is frequently specified together with bottle or cap inspection on the same liquid line.

Honest positioning: We do not invent model SKUs or list prices for fill-level stations. Each installation is application-engineered — camera angle, backlight or diffuse lighting, and tolerance windows are set for your SKUs during commissioning.

Where Fill Level Inspection Fits

The Optomech fill level station mounts on the conveyor after the filler. Exact camera and lighting geometry depend on whether bottles are clear, amber, or opaque, and whether inspection runs before or after capping.

Defect Detection

Underfill, Overfill & Fill Height Defects

Machine vision measures the visible fill line (or meniscus) against the programmed acceptance band for each SKU. Combined stations can also verify cap presence and seating on the same liquid packaging line.

⬇️
Underfill / Short Fill
Fill height below the minimum tolerance — short weight, compliance risk, and customer complaints
⬆️
Overfill
Fill height above the maximum band — product giveaway, spill risk, and sealing problems
📭
Empty / Near-Empty
Missing product or failed fill cycle — critical reject before labelling or dispatch
🔩
Cap + Fill Combined
When paired with CIS: missing, tilted, or wrong caps checked with fill height on one line

Inspection Coverage

How Liquid Fill Height Vision Works

The station integrates onto the existing conveyor. Lighting and camera angle are selected for transparent, translucent, or challenging bottle colours so the fill line stays measurable at line speed.

01

Container Enters Zone

Filled bottles travel under the Optomech inspection head one after another at production speed — triggered by the line encoder or photocell.

02

Image Capture

Industrial cameras with application-specific LED lighting (often backlight or controlled side light) capture the fill region with high contrast.

03

Fill Band Decision

Software locates the fill line / meniscus and compares it to the SKU recipe. Result: pass, underfill, overfill, or empty — in real time.

04

Reject & Record

Defective units are ejected pneumatically. Reject images and counts support QA review, filler tuning, and audit trails.

Built for Liquid Packaging Lines

📷

Application-Tuned Cameras

Camera count and optics selected for your bottle diameter, neck finish, and liquid colour — not a one-size gadget bolted on without validation.

💡

Fill-Line Lighting Design

Backlight, diffuse, or side illumination chosen so the meniscus remains stable under factory ambient light and across clear, amber, and frosted packs.

🗂️

SKU Recipe Management

Named recipes store fill bands, camera settings, and reject logic per product. Changeovers recall the correct tolerance window without re-teaching from scratch.

🔗

Works with BIS & CIS

Fill level is designed as part of Optomech’s packaging vision stack — combine empty-bottle QC, fill height, and cap inspection into one coherent line programme.

⚙️

Pneumatic Rejection

Underfilled and overfilled containers are removed without stopping the conveyor. Rejection verification can be added where the line requires confirm-eject.

🖥️

Operator Touchscreen

Live images, fill statistics, and recent rejects help operators see filler drift early — before a whole shift of short fills ships.

🔒

Access Control & Audit

Role-based access keeps fill tolerances from being changed casually. Reporting supports QA, regulatory, and customer audit needs on pharma and FMCG lines.

🌐

Remote Support

Optomech engineers in Hyderabad can assist with diagnostics and parameter updates remotely when site access is limited — reducing downtime.

🏗️

Made in India Since 1981

Optomech designs and manufactures machine vision inspection equipment in Hyderabad. Fill-level stations inherit the same engineering discipline as BIS, CIS, and our specialised systems.

🧩

Adjacent to BIS / CIS / LIS

Fill height is rarely a lone requirement. We plan fill-level vision with bottle, cap, label, and seal inspection so your liquid line has one coherent quality story.

🎯

Application-Engineered

Lighting, optics, and tolerances are validated on your bottles and liquids. We avoid shipping generic boxes with invented SKUs or brochure-only claims.

🎓

Onsite Commissioning

Engineers install, tune fill bands, train operators, and stay until reject rates and false rejects are understood for your SKUs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A fill level inspection system is an inline machine vision station that checks liquid fill height on every bottle or container after the filler. Cameras and controlled lighting locate the fill line or meniscus and compare it to the SKU tolerance band. Underfilled and overfilled units are rejected automatically while good containers continue downstream.
Underfill (short fill) means the product volume is below the declared or process minimum. Overfill means the volume exceeds the maximum band, causing giveaway or sealing issues. Liquid fill height vision detects both conditions at line speed so sampling does not miss intermittent filler faults.
Yes. Cap and fill level inspection is a common request on liquid lines. Optomech can engineer fill-height vision alongside CIS (cap/closure) and BIS (bottle) stations so underfill/overfill and closure defects are handled in one packaging vision programme.
Typically immediately after the filler. Depending on bottle opacity, foam, and whether the process needs a post-cap check, the station may sit before or after capping. Optomech confirms placement during the application survey.
No. Optomech is a packaging vision OEM for systems such as BIS, CIS, LIS, ISIVS, FOSIS, CANIS, and PBIS. Fill-level inspection is offered as an engineered capability for your bottles and liquids — without inventing fake model numbers, prices, or customer quotes on this page.
Pharmaceutical liquids, beverage and bottled water, nutraceutical liquids, personal care, household chemicals, agrochemicals, and other FMCG liquid packs that must prove consistent fill quantity for quality and compliance.
